Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about the state of the appraisal industry — where we are, where we’re headed, and what real opportunity looks like in the years to come.
Here’s the truth:
Innovation is coming fast.
UAD 3.6? Probably overdue.
AI? It’s here to stay.
Change? It’s not optional anymore.
But this isn’t a eulogy for the industry — it’s a rally cry.
There’s real opportunity ahead. I genuinely believe that we’re going to see more growth, more tools, and more ways to deliver value in the next 5 years than we’ve seen in the last 40.
And guess what? You don’t have to figure it all out alone.
👉 Appraisers aren’t your competition — they’re your colleagues.
Talk to each other. Lean in. Ask questions. Share ideas. You’ll be surprised how much better your day (and your business) gets with a few good conversations.
👉 Broaden your horizon.
We work closely with agents, yes — but also lawyers, estate planners, local and regional banks. These are the people who truly value what we bring to the table. Lenders are a big part of the volume, but there’s a bigger world out there waiting to be served.
👉 Don’t fear tech — explore it.
You don’t have to be a coder to use AI. You just have to be curious. Try a new tool. Experiment. Play around. Get uncomfortable. Then reassess. You’ll be amazed at how much time and energy you save. The industry is shifting — fast.
But if you’re still here? That means you’ve got grit.
And at Hardesty Appraisals, LLC, we’re not just staying in the game — we’re helping shape the next chapter.
We’re open for business. We’re here to help. And we’re building a future where appraisers thrive.
Let’s grow this thing — together 💪.
